Not only that, Trump shoots the messenger when the message doesn't fit his agenda. I read a while back Azar knew early on coronavirus was going to be a big problem, notified the WH several times, but avoided direct discussions w/Trump for fear of retaliation.
Just remember that these CV death numbers are very padded and "bogus" - it's all about the $ (and some of it politically motivated IMO) as a death by CV even though it really isn't = more $ anyway.

There is a certain segment of our population that won't believe in this until they catch it. Or their family catches it. And then, their reaction to it will only be comparable to what they faced. If it was no biggie for them then it ain't something to worry about. If it floored them, then they will be screaming from the rooftops.

The fact that Trump came out with "guidelines" for opening and within a couple of days was encouraging governors and citizens to violate the guidelines seems to be lost upon the Trump cult.
The fact that right wing news outlets are STILL insisting that this response is a hoax while Trump claims that if it wasn't for him there would be millions of deaths also seems to be lost on these people.
If a democrat had claimed two weeks ago that deaths would max out at 50,000, be wrong and now claim that deaths would be maxing out at 100,000 the same right wing posters would be all over that democrat like a duck on a cricket.
But instead we just get the crickets.
Its difficult to keep up with Trump, one minute its going away then its 50,000 deaths and now 100,000. He should really stay out of the prediction business and his medical cures.

They aren't padded or bogus, death statistics are always a moving target. Deaths from diseases like flu are estimates, never intended to be 100% accurate. But at this point with over 60,000 deaths you are splitting hairs.

Lots of our local restaurants aren't ready to open up -- patio only -- so they are continuing their curbside. The meals that have been available are amazing.
