So then we’ve basically had this shutdown for nothing.
Almost 80,000 people have died in the U.S. in less than 3 months. If that is “nothing” to you then by all means, get back to doing what you were doing before the shutdown. And yes, in the absence of a vaccine, a majority of the population will be infected. Whether you will be asymptomatic, die from complications, or fall somewhere in the middle, no one can accurately predict. The goal of social distancing is to slow down the spread, so that everyone is not infected at the same time, overwhelming our hospitals and health care professionals. No one ever said social distancing will stop the virus. It will not.

Exactly. If you are run over by a truck, and happen to have the coronavirus, they are apparently recording that as death from the coronavirus. Etc., etc.
These numbers do not appear to be trustworthy. Shocker.
These test reports and many of the inferences being drawn from them are all subject to skepticism because the testing from state to state and reporting is different. Some states are now including positive antibodies in case counts, others base the case count on the day of the test (up to a week old), and many rural outbreaks are in institutional settings and not in the general population just yet.
There is one thing that is true: covid is out there, it's everywhere, and you will probably get it over the next year without a vaccine. If you are over 80, odds are it will kill you. 70-80 you should be deeply concerned. 60-70, not looking good. 40-60, toss up. High blood pressure? Obese? Better write a will. Under 30, forget about it. Many of us are going to die this coming year that might have lived to a ripe old age. Masks can help, but covid will find most of us anyway just like it did the people in the White House.
750 dead in a single day, and somehow this is good. lol. Folks, opening up while 750 people are dying a day is just going to make that number jump.
"Sure, I have heard those so-called "Heinkels" still flying overhead, but notice how they're not hitting anything? Besides, there have been no bombs dropped where I live and it is my right to turn on my lights!"
The Greatest Generation this ain't.
