Typically ventilated patients are given prophylactic anticoagulation with Lovenox. Sounds like the Lancet article suggests using heparin. That presents issues with bleeding as cited especially in shock states. Hyper coagulatory states are difficult especially as shock DIC and others hit the platelets hard. As I think about it, the key would be monitoring coag labs and addressing them.

If the issue is an inflammatory process as suggested attempts to manage that should be 1st up. That said is some cases the only thing which MAY work is ECMO.

Apparently the cause is multifactorial but in essence the inflammatory response (to the virus) alters the blood clotting cascade. This action predisposes the blood to clot and cause thrombi and emboli. These cause the ischemic strokes.

So technically it isn't the virus itself that causes this. It's the immuno response to the virus that causes it.

Today on TV we see Mike Pence walking into the Mayo Clinic without wearing a mask even though everyone else in the place had on a mask.

Is this new executive order also going to protect our food from the virus? Will it mandate gloves and masks and tests for the workers? I haven't seen the details yet.

Yes I would also like to see Trumps plan for these conditions.

Since the beginning of April, meatpacking plants across the country have been forced to shut in response to viral outbreaks that have infected thousands of workers.

Meatpackers work in tight spaces and breathe recirculated air during long shifts, which makes it easy for the virus to transmit across the thousands of workers in a single plant.

The United Food & Commercial Workers union estimates that 20 workers in meatpacking and food processing have already died from Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

Anyone that comes in close contact with Mike Pence is pre-tested for Covid19.

I will repeat!

At this time, it is unknown for how long antibodies persist following infection and if the presence of antibodies confers protective immunity.
