Like most, I got a letter in an IRS envelope telling me that my wife and I were entitled to a $2400 check that was signed by Trump.
Now this was direct deposited some two weeks ago so for starters it was after the fact.
I don't know how much this dumb act cost the taxpayers.
Just political advertising to put his name in front of me.
I'm sure the letter idea came about when Trump realized how many people have direct deposit and won't have the privilege of seeing his signature on a physical check.
I should add, I think it may work. Real society isn't the same as the online world where people are very engaged and ultra polarized politically. Every little movement on either side is dissected and people are generally immune to the effects of misinformation from the other side. However, if I'm not that engaged politically and I receive a letter from the president, I may think hey, this Trump guy is looking out for me!
A liberal politician would spin it like this: we have to mail our population because there’s so many disadvantaged poor citizens without access to the internet or bank accounts or a cell phone. We couldn’t email them, text them, call them, or direct deposit them, so our only way to reach these poor starving victims is to sent a post card. Oh a it’s Trump’s fault you don’t have a bank account.
Then they would create the pre-paid phone card in the shape of a donkey and mail it out with the EBT amount on it.
OP are you kidding? On my USPS dashboard I see that my son is getting a piece of mail from the IRS and we've been sort of nervously wondering what this is. He got his stimulus check 2 weeks ago. I cannot believe that a separate letter is being sent out like this. SMH.
If that letter was the biggest thing for all of us to stress over, we'll be lucky.
