Newsom has to remember or keep in mind why many move to California and not Alaska or why there are songs dreaming about California. Sun and Surf are at the top of the list for many. Throw in the fact that staying inside cranking the ac can be just as devastating to one's bank account as running a furnace in a Chicago winter. Not to mention things like heat and u-vs why not go to the beach on a nice day. But his tax base is based on those who pursue sun and surf.

Surfers who aren't allowed to surf are like drug addicts who can't get their drugs. You can "close" the beach but you can't actually close the beach. If I am clear.

All these closures will do is turn formerly peaceful and law-abiding citizens into lawbreakers. It is putting law enforcement into an impossible situation, because they don't want to start arresting people who are literally doing nothing wrong except ignoring a talking head in Sacramento.

As for the arguments about "They're going to catch the virus and take it home"....I live in Orange County where businesses and schools have been locked down but the beach has been open for the past six weeks. If surfers and beachgoers have been bringing viruses home all this time, I'm not seeing big signs of it.

Newsom is doing the best he can. There are almost 40 million people in California and most of them live in southern California. We're certainly going to see the number of cases rise within a week or two and then deaths a week or ten days beyond that.

I'm grateful to live in L.A. County, because although our local leadership has had its challenges, at least Garcetti cares enough about us to shut everything down. It didn't have to be this way, but people don't social distance, they don't wear face masks, etc. What other choice is there? It wouldn't take much to overwhelm our healthcare system and the only reason it hasn't been so far is directly because of the quick actions taken by Garcetti and Newsom! Flattening the curve isn't fun, but it's working!

And why is that? Because people were going to the beach, and now they are not?

Flattening the curve already worked. Now it’s time to salvage the economy if we can or there will be another lost generation.

Boy, Garcetti did a great job. He made sure that LA county had the HIGHEST case rate and death toll in the state. He's number one! He wins!

L.A. County is the most populated county in the entire country. If you look at the rate of infection vs. the population, we're doing great! Also, you need to keep in mind how much worse this would be if everything hadn't been shut down when it was. Even two or three days matter when we're talking about exponential growth. Besides, no matter how hard any government tries to mitigate the spread of disease, unless they take very strict measures (not allowing you to leave your home at all for four to six weeks!), the spread will continue - just more slowly than it would have if nothing was done. We're flattening the curve, not obliterating it.
