There are many densely populated areas in the country and none of them are anywhere near as embarrassing as NY. When it comes to COVID deaths per 1 million people, the top 4 are NY, NJ, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.....basically NY and 3 other states caught in their wake.

The next two are Louisiana, who had tragically poor leadership that decided to have Mardi Gras despite the pandemic, and Michigan....and I think we all know about Michigan's leadership.
Unlike the west coast, the source of infection came from Europe, not China.

JFK has more flight between the US and the rest of the world than any other US airport. Newark is iin the top 5.
2.1 million passengers arrived in NYC in the 2 months preceding restricting flights from many, not all European cities. Another million +/- continued to arrive from the UK and other parts of Europe after the initial restrictions.

Some might recall, that once restrictions were imposed, passengers arriving from some hot zone countries were subjected to health screenings at designated international airports. Due to inadequate CDC staffing to process the surge, arriving passengers were packed like sardines for 4-7 hours awaiting screening.

We’ll never know how many of those arriving passengers were asymptomatic at the time of their arrival and spread the virus.

Sneeze into your hand. Pay your taxi fare with cash or a credit card and you spread the virus. Taxi driver makes change on his next ride and spreads the virus. Taxi driver buys lunch in Queens and spreads the virus before stopping off at the local bar for a few beers and heading home to wife and kids and mother in law and spreads the virus. Mother in law leaves to play Canasta with friends and spreads the virus. Wife shops for groceries and spreads the virus to the shopping cart and 17 avocados before finding the best 3 and spreads the virus.

9/10 most densely populated cities in the US are in NY and NJ.

I didn't take it. It was on twitter. He wasn't the only one posting pics. There are other people posting pics too.

That's highly encouraging! Sunlight and warmth boosts the immune system and weakens the virus. 1 in 4 of those people had it that morning-meaning that NYC is well on the way to herd immunity. Inadvertently, due to Cuomo's and de Blasio's incompetence, NYC will be the first city in the country to have herd immunity and get past this.

Climate doesn’t have much to do with it. Even Houston where I live was cold and dry in January and February. The thing that worked in our favor is that we don’t use much public transportation. Many schools were out on Spring Break the week of March 9th and just never returned this school year. They shut down the rodeo early, which is a huge two-week event with multiple days of rodeo events with concerts that are massively attended. If they hadn’t shut down when they did we may have had a situation like New Orleans after Mardi Gras.

Austin shut down the South by Southwest events, which are attended by people from all over the world.

But those things required government to do that stuff, and our local and state government did what was necessary so they should get credit for it.

I do not think Bill De Blasio should get any credit. He’s an idiot. But Cuomo has been alright, though pretty whiny and annoying. I don’t understand why the subway is still running, but I guess you really have no choice. Makes me glad I don’t live in such a densely packed city.

It came from Europe by way of China, which is why they had to shut down travel to the EU not too long after shutting it down from China.

Either way, the local response in NY should have been better. Not only did they never shut down the subways, they weren't even disinfecting them until less than a week ago. Hell they were even forcing elderly care facilities to accept patients with positive COVID-19 tests....adding to the spread among those most vulnerable....something the brilliant authoritarian governor didn't even realize he had done. Now sure, the fact that the people in that region tend to live like rats didn't help anything, but it doesn't change the fact that their state and local response was inadequate.....and there's no one else you can blame about that.

California can't even keep the bums of San Francisco from defecating in public all over the city, but they managed to come up with a plan to adequately address the COVID-19 spread.

Florida is full of "Florida man" types and old people, yet they've handled the situation fairly well.

very well said.

Started from China, spread by international travelers. Truth be told, many of these travelers probably just wanted to "escape" the virus, so US became their safe area.

From now on, shut down international traveling when one country has an outbreak.

I personally know one Chinese person traveled to Japan in the begining of Jan right before WUhan total lock down, because she wanted to get sick in japan, not in China; I know a person from Korea traveled to the U.S. because she wanted to escape the virus.

It is human nature to find a safer place, but what they really should do is shelter in place, traveling is a sure thing to spread the virus. So now, we the u.s. becomes the epicenter.

I don’t doubt there are plenty of New Yorkers not adhering to guidelines, but posting inflammatory, misleading content doesn’t help your cause.

Nope that was yesterday. The pride flags are up year long there.

Sorry guy, that just won't sell.

NY is uniquely awful, they bring down the numbers for the entire country.

As to the specifics about what other places did, they all had different responses tailored to their own needs. Some made mistakes like New Orleans by having Mardi Gras, but for the most part the leadership across the country was solid with the obvious exception of NY which is a national disgrace.

The reason you let states tailor their own responses is because typically state and local government will know what their people need far better than those at the national level. It's the reason for our system of government in the first place. A national dictator, like our friends on the left want, wouldn't be able to do as good a job overall with sweeping policy that applied everywhere. It's good Trump refrained from going down that path despite some foolish rhetoric at times.
So the republican led states did nothing in January and February. Thats basically what you're saying. Because you cant point to anything that Republican led Alabama or Kentucky did in January and February. You know fully well that they were on the Donald "just like the regular flu" Trump train in Jan and Feb. So what is so great about that? Doing nothing is nothing to brag about.

Or, they were traveling on business or returning to their American universities...
