Is anyone else noticing a pattern? De BLASIO wants to enforce social distancing with force, yet, upper class folks in the west side are out and about and acting like nothing is happening. And then they’re wondering why the counts there are so high.
25% of the population of NYC had been infected as of about 2 weeks ago. Meaning 1/4 of the people you'll run into have it. You will be exposed, just plan on it. Fortunately most exposed and that develop antibodies will never even know it. Lockdowns might have served a purpose 2 months ago to, as the experts said, flatten the curve, and they gave us time to learn about the bug. Now that we know that, until we have herd immunity, virtually everyone not in a hard lockdown will be exposed. Common sense says, keep nursing homes in "lockdown" and test every employee and ensure that they have antibodies (obviously keep them away until they are not infectious). If you are old, live off SS and have stuff delivered, or practice SD and wear a mask for a few more weeks. Otherwise, end the lockdown. Now, it's about controlling a people, not a virus.
NYC is the most densely packed city in America. It is filled with young people that think they won't catch the virus so what can be done? How can the message get out? It will only get worse there as the weather gets better and the people want to get out of their small apartments.
We could blame De Blasio and Cuomo but we all know that Trump will get the ultimate blame.
Restaurants are allowed to open in Texas. Most aren't and the ones that are aren't doing much business.
Ate out on the patio of a Mexican restaurant yesterday. Dinner hour on Saturday and only one other couple there. Only went to that restaurant after finding my two favorite restaurants still closed.
Plastic wrapped disposable utensils, disposable cups, fresh air. As safe as takeout.
The next two to three years is going to be nasty for restaurant businesses.

Sometimes no one is completely to blame. NYC depends greatly on the subway system. Mass transit ain't good at this point in time. Not that all three of the men you mentioned haven't effed up big time.

I think that's certainly the hope of our friends on the left, but given that NY and those caught in their wake are the sole embarrassments in the country, I find it hard to believe that Trump will catch the blame from independents. Obviously partisan Democrats will blame Trump, but those aren't rational thinking individuals for the most part so they don't really count. No one expects anything from them.
There are many densely populated areas in the country and none of them are anywhere near as embarrassing as NY. When it comes to COVID deaths per 1 million people, the top 4 are NY, NJ, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.....basically NY and 3 other states caught in their wake.
The next two are Louisiana, who had tragically poor leadership that decided to have Mardi Gras despite the pandemic, and Michigan....and I think we all know about Michigan's leadership.

The police are out and about the black areas of nyc.

Trump portrayed the virus as a joke and we would go from 15 to 0 cases in a matter of days in February. And what exactly did the leadership of Republican led states do in January and February that was so great?
what exactly did the leadership of all other states do in January and February that was so great?
They tailored responses to their individual states. It's why highly populous states like Texas and California have so few deaths from this. it's why more than half of the COVID-19 deaths have come from NY and those states caught in their wake. Their level of incompetence was so extreme it doomed surrounding states as well. If those surrounding states had better leadership, they'd have completely shut their borders to NY immediately, but there's nothing that can be done about it now.
Different parts of the country require different responses. Most got it right, NY didn't.
