During a COVID-19 briefing, The Virginia Department of Health announced it will now count the number of positive virus tests instead of the number of people who test positive.

That means if one person is tested three-times and all three tests come back positive, it counts as three instead of how the numbers were being counted before, which would have only been one because it was a single patient.

“We realized for Virginia that that change in methodology made a clear sense because we want to make sure that other number that we’re reporting since so many folks are focusing on that as we move into the phases so as one of the important indicators,” said Dr. Carey.

Yup, gotta pump those numbers up since things were handled too well in the majority of the country.

Yeah I'm in VA and trust me, lots of people are not happy about this. It's been 400 ish deaths and most of those are coming from retirement homes.

Intentional confusion? What is the motivation?

You would be lowering the mortality rate which would reduce the concern to fear of death for those contracting. No one would care if we have 1,000,000,000,000,00 cases in the USA if the deaths were 50, its all about the deaths and this change would drive the mortality percentage lower.

In essence you would be providing evidence that the country should open up due to a dropping mortality rate. Virginia would be helping the Trump administration argument of re-opening by lowering the mortality rate and there is nothing to fear.

What we do know is the case and deaths are off, we have many more cases than known due to poor testing and more deaths due to lack of knowledge in February concerning stroke, blood clots, and heart attacks contributed to COVID-19.

Projecting much? You people believe that everyone is out to cheat and lie because that is your moral system. Do you see?

I literally just posted a quote from the article and said interesting.

Yet, I'm the one projecting? Perhaps you should look in the mirror.

I saw that also and couldn't figure out how this method is better, it goes on to say North Carolina does it this way, do others?

I also find it interesting that only certain businesses were closed outright and others were allowed to continue with adjustments even "none-essentials".

My governor is doing everything he can to artificially inflate the numbers in order to keep us in lockdown. I suspect he got wind that he numbers were dropping, so he took action to pump them back up again. Guess he figured that he needs more time to destroy businesses and wipe out hundreds of thousands of jobs.
