Unrest is growing. Not large, but there have been more and more protests in various states asking the governors to re-open up business. I see many comments about the left conspiring with these extended shutdowns.

I want to hear from all of the political experts here on City-Data as to the explanation why these shutdowns aren't about health, but about some political agenda.

hmm they are both. In the sense you have a health crisis but as some Politicians have been known to say you never let a crisis go to waste. It is a great time to push your agenda and the limits of your power when the public is distracted and panicky. And plenty of people in government are doing just that. Constitutional rights are being denied daily with little fuss in the name of Covid 19, history will show if this is justified or petty power grabs.

I think there is an ulterior motive in people trying to rush the re-opening, so there you go.

Sure thing. Democratic and Republican governors secretly conspired with the rest of the world to impose lockdowns so they can achieve the ultimate goal of getting citizens to wear masks and stay a few feet apart. I'm sure that gay frogs and lizard people have a hand in this dastardly plan too.

I believe the logic is: Democrats want to close things, everything Democrats do is evil commie **** because they are devil worshipping leftist scum, therefore closing things is bad. And if Republican officials want to close things, they are RINOS.

So what's the motive?

We look back in horror on the 1918 Spanish Flu and the efforts of the government and certain media groups to downplay its risks so as not to undermine the war effort in Europe.

In 2120, they will look back in horror on covid-19 and the efforts of the government and certain media to downplay its risks so as not to upset the bottom line of big business and the ultra-rich.

Instead of the left having ulterior motives, what we’re seeing in reality is the wealthiest individuals and corporations cashing in once again. The relief bills have been massive giveaways to the plutocracy and more of our economic autonomy is slipping away, not from some imagined socialist agenda, but because of the fact that we’re allowing the plutocracy to gain more power.

Stop this unnecessary , ridiculous and extremely harmful shutdown?

End the needless suffering of many due to loss of income, loss of businesses and livelihoods?

The idea that this was some worldwide conspiracy to get Trump out of office to where countries who have nothing to do with Trump would tank their own economy as well just to get him out of office really takes a special breed of stupid to believe.
