If you're actually from DC, confederate flag items exist in numerous forms south of DC. It's a little hard to miss all the flagpole flags that line I-95 all the way down to the NC border. Confederate flags mean numerous things in the the US. The Swastika, no matter what else it may have signified in history, is forever tied to one group who specifically designated one group for global extermination caused the deaths of around 75 Million people in relation to a war they started.

That's not a law.

Also, the swastika is an ancient vedic symbol. What if the guy wearing the mask was a Hindu?

Police can't assault people just because they're wearing a symbol that some people don't like.
