Why would California be dumb enough to subsidize a car company?

sooner or later despite how Liberal some of these companies act they will move out of state to cheaper locations. Its pure self delusion of people to think that the talent of the workers will keep them there. You can always find more workers. No different than when all the auto manufactures moved out of Detroit for cheaper locations. The workers and the state taxes did it to themselves. The best we can hope for is that when these companies leave California they had least stay in the U.S. Unlike so many of the auto manufactures who left the country completly

I have a lot of respect for Musk on a business/tech level. I don't think it's a coincidence that he stood up two groundbreaking tech companies, in different disciplines, in the course of a decade.

Having said that, he also seems to be, in his personality - eccentric, pugnacious, he can't deal very well with authority, rules, or laws... in short, he's dysfunctional.

A lot of people are like that though, some go on and are part of the multi billion dollar lobbying efforts, because well, they cannot deal with authority, rules, etc, so they need to influence those things.

Those are the successful ones, many people, the rank and file of the world, also have this attitude.

More Bay Area blue voters will be moving with Tesla when their job relocates to TX, to help turn TX more blue. Or to Nevada to turn it more blue. Thanks Elon Musk. We need more Democrats in TX and NV to swing those close elections.

California leads the nation in manufacturing output and before the pandemic it was expanding, not contracting. Even if Tesla closes the Fremont factory, that will only cause a loss of about 2% of California's total manufacturing output.

Yes. The company earned a profit for the last three quarters in a row. Analysts say the company is poised to make massive profits in 2021, and that's without federal subsidies.

It's not the dumbest thing they decided to subsidize. Not by a long shot. From what I understand, California is now paying for drugs, cigarettes and booze for homeless people. So essentially, they are subsidizing people's drug habits now. Meanwhile, between the COL and taxes, most responsible adults there could never afford to live a normal life, have children, etc, so they are being replaced by illegals. Sure doesn't look like a good and healthy model for the rest of the nation to follow.
