Time magazine shows that 6990 Americans left the US to become permanent residents in Canada after George W Bush was reelected in 2004. That number jumped to 8,394 in 2005, the year Bush was sworn in for his second term. The number skyrocketed to 10,190 in 2008 before falling drastically to 8,995 the next year when President Barack Obama began his term.

It's no secret that Americans leave America when they don't like the President in office. And I imagine no President in our history has been more revered or reviled than Trump. Is anyone here on CD who is in the reviled camp planning to apply for permanent residency in Canada or elsewhere if Trump is reelected, which I am almost sure he will be?

I don't think we're lucky enough to have those who threaten it actually follow through with it.

We could only wish. Let’s start with Whoopi Goldberg, Alec Baldwin, and Joy Behar.

Since the vast majority of people aren't going to do anything so drastically stupid, I'd expect that those oscillations over the years are due to other factors like economics and not the presidential elections.

Didn't at least half the Liberals in Hollywood threaten to do so if he was elected? As far as I know, none did.

I’m not. My partner and I have discussed it and as he’s not American, there is some comfort in knowing we do have a Plan B if things fall even further apart here.

Are idiots going to stop writing “Love it or leave it” on Internet forums? Here’s hoping!

well Canada actually has pretty restrictive immigration laws, unless you have money or a very desired skill set you just can't walk over the border. Thats a little ironic given how many of those who would leave might prefer if we allowed that.

Unless you are an investor, or married to a Canadian citizen, or with a special Canada immigration visa, you cannot just immigrate to Canada as a US citizen because you don't like the newly elected US President. Canada is not going to issue you a visa for that.

I don't listen to anything the Leftist/Prgresives say since they're all talk and zero action. As for Whoppie and Joyless Joy B., they're free to leave at anytime, but they won't.

If they did move to whatever country, they would find something to "beech" about there "new” country, but nobody would give a dang how they feel since they would be nothing more then rich elitist foreigners, "beeching" about THEIR country.

Seriously, what country and more important, the people, would love to have a spoiled rich American elitist telling them how they should think and act?? I doubt if they would find any country and people who would welcome them... And see them as being all that important... Since they're not... Just another group of ugly, really ugly, American snobs.

Plus, they, which is bad luck for us, would most likely be deported back to the US cuz in most every single country in the world, you are not allowed to voice your dislike for their government, especially you're a new comer and not a native... Something that they and every other Leftist/Progressive seems to forget.

I found this interesting:

"James Comey says he will move to New Zealand if Trump wins in 2020"
