Obviously someone doesn't understand the term pedophilia.

Pedophilia

"sexual feelings directed toward children."

The pole dancer wasn't a child.

honestly, I think America is too prudish.... case in point this thread. Kinda not worthy of a thread. There are dancers that wear similar outfits... throw in a pole and suddenly its purely sexual. Pole dancing is actually a global competition much like dancing and cheering. If you want to witness sexualization, modeling is full of it... yet each year parents are encouraging their children to model. Wanna start 100s of threads on that topic?

Pole dancing isn't inherently sexual. And, even if it was, so what? There is nothing deviant inherently about sexuality or sex. I think if people talked to their children about sex and sexuality more often--instead of pretending that sex doesn't happen or that it is something to be ashamed of as far too many families do--folks would have healthier relationships.

Also, I don't see a problem with people choosing to dress scantily if they want. Hell, we aren't living in Saudi Arabia or Iran. The Sharia does not apply here.
The #metoo comment wasn't directed towards you... that was just in passing.

Just because we have the freedom to do it, doesn't mean that it's a good practice. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with a 7 year old imitating her on the playground, right? These days, she would have an audience of molesters waiting to pounce.

Gotcha on the #MeToo comment.

To your other point, if a 7 year old wants to pole dance--again, there is nothing inherently sexual about pole dancing--then so what? Of course, a 7 year old shouldn't be on the playground alone, which means that parents should be there to help guide best practices when out and about at random places. But this is true regardless of the situation.

Apparently "pole sport" is a thing now, even in America. Who knew?

It's a fact of life that pole-dancing is associated with strip clubs in the USA. If we want to take the tack that its just like any other form of exercise or gymnastics (which I do agree there is similar in say, circus performances) then why isn't she wearing exercise attire? The adults watching are going to associate it with strip clubs, particularly the men. So the associations sexualize the performance. I think it needs to be presented differently to buy the concept that its "just like any other form of dance". Let's have young men on the pole for a start. It's disingenuous to say Americans are prudish. I am from Europe and I find Americans have a healthy sexuality and many do a lot more exercise and use and enjoy their bodies to move around a lot more than many Europeans. So let's not stereotype.

This is in truth how many Americans see pole dancing, like Chris Rock. Why is the audience cracking up? Because they all have a similar social understandin and they know what "keep your daughter off the pole" means.

Unbelievable... parents applauding... I am so glad I am not raising kids now.

The bad part about it is that there is room to sink even further.

What's wrong with it?

I watched the video, its completely harmless, there's no nudity, no overt sexuality or any more than any gymnastics. Its completely G rated.

Sure kids are applauding because it's quite impressive.

Thanks for your opinion. I will continue to keep efforts to impose Sharia (written tongue in cheek, of course) out of this country. I see nothing wrong with the performance or video.

Good pole-sport performers will have trained hard for years, to develop the strength, fitness and skill required. I think the next step is for it to become an Olympic event. As a competitive sport, it has no more sexuality to it than any other and that aspect is imposed by the mind of an observer. Using a pole for exercise can be a good addition to any workout regimen. I've done some, along with my other exercises, for many years.

The only point I was making is the associations with pole dancing, that's a fact. Making the jump to suggest I am calling for Sharia Law is hyperbole.
