94% of CV19 fatalities have occurred in those who are 65+ according to their numbers. Not shocking that a large percentage of non old folks are up in arms about the extent of the various containment measures.
I saw a very interesting stat out of PA the other day, although I have no idea how accurate it is. It stated that the average age of someone in PA who dies of Covid-19 is 79; the average life expectancy age of a PA resident is 78.5.
Erie County where I live has had 402 deaths - the amt of nursing home deaths in Erie County is 166 = 41.29%
The next county over - Niagara County has had 50 deaths - amt of nursing home deaths is 25 = 50%
Yes, the article mentions that the percentage could be as high as 51% which would mean that over 40,000 deaths in the US are from this particular group.
Nursing homes have never been great places to stay. Now we see the cracks in this system widening more so. I think there should have been concern decades ago about the care in these places. Most are not great to say the least. Some are ok. I worked in an adventist run nh yrs ago that was run well. And, a catholic run one that wasn't too bad either. Many nursing homes that have multiple citations are still running.

His condition rapidly worsened, was hospitalized, tested positive and died. And like clockwork, residents began demonstrating symptoms. Thus far 27 have died in rapid succession.
The facility was not testing employees because there were not enough tests. They had run out of PPE and reusing what they had.

While there are anecdotal reports of some seniors ignoring guidelines, seems to me most are isolating reasonably well.
Who is infecting them? Family members? Caregivers?
I have a neighbor who had a big bash for her mother on Sunday. All the sibs and grandchildren were present. Mindset was that given it was family, somehow all were magically immune. Likely 50+ opportunities for infection.
Early on, there was a large family in NJ that gathered for Easter or something. All became infected. No idea who was the spreader. Nearly the entire family, sans the children, were eventually wiped out. The mom and one of her adult children died the same day in the same hospital.
