It does seem that CNN's headline was wrong -- but the content of the article was correct. The headline has been corrected.
You have to read teh whole article and can rearely go by the headline

CLARIFICATION: The headline on this post was updated to clarify that the survey found 68% of Americans say an available vaccine is very important before returning to normal life. The post was also clarified to emphasize that respondents were rating the importance of each benchmark to their willingness to return to regular activities.
Sorry it's not a thread fail, the OP didn't make the headline up, CNN misrepresented the results in their headline. At best it merely points out CNN's incompetence, at worst, it was done intentionally and they were called on it and were forced to correct the headline.
While we may chide each other for not reading the articles, folks like CNN absolutely know that a large percentage of folks don't fully read articles so the correctness of the headline is critical in disseminating news.

They only respond when somebody calls them out. Otherwise, they get away with fake news constantly.
yeah, i get it - technically 51% is most, but tomatoes are technically a fruit, too. It's ok to use some wisdom when making a fruit salad - and when making headlines about important surveys.
For instance, if you got 51% right on a test - that's most of the answers - right? But you failed. Try pleading your case to the prof.
But the actual question was about returning to "normal activities" vs CNN's "normal life". So what? Same concept but differently worded.
You apparently missed the whole crux of the conversation. It's not about 'normal activities' vs 'normal life', it's about the difference between:
Quote:
would not return
vs
Quote:
very important before returning
Hopefully the difference between stating an absolute ('would not') vs a preference ('very important') is quite clear and obvious, though apparently (if one were willing to attribute malice) CNN knew that many folks would not appreciate/care about the significance of the difference. Either way, the difference between 'life' vs 'activities' is not the primary focus here.
It's almost daily and usually quite subtle. They twist statements to meet their agenda. This time they twisted a Gallup poll to support their alarmist agenda.
----------------
Two-thirds of Americans said they would not return to "normal life" until a vaccine becomes available for COVID-19, according to CNN.
The ramifications of this finding would be well worth discussing, since the timeline for a vaccine is unknowable: It could be available next year, in three years, or never. But it turns out that the headline, "68% of Americans say a vaccine is needed before returning to normal life, new survey finds," is fake news.
The CNN article cites a Gallup poll as its source. But Gallup did not poll respondents on the question of whether a vaccine was "needed before returning to normal life," which was CNN's wording of the question in the headline.
The actual question was "How important are each of the following factors to you when thinking about your willingness to return to your normal activities?" The option "availability of a vaccine to prevent COVID-19" was important to 68 percent of respondents. That's quite different: A vaccine could be "very important" to people without being absolutely mandatory.
Seriously. Let's fact check all the lies Trump has told over the last few years. You should be more concerned about a president lies before a news outlet.
To the OP according to you and TRUMP ....
CNN is "Fake News" so why worry yourself what they are reporting?
CORONA is a HOAX and OBAMA was born in KENYA!
Most "Cultists" either Die or need Mental help.
What is your outcome?
