this man makes a lot of great points, and the entire video deserves a view. but it's quite long so I linked directly to the part where he talks about the wests' view on china.

why do we in the west think, in all our hubris, think we have to the right to tell other countries how to run theirs. we don't even have our own **** together, and our country is barely 1/5 the size of china.

a democracy is not always the best way to run or rule a country. after all, a democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner.

"the US (a country with a 240 year history) is passing judgment on china (2000+ years)".

China has only existed as the People's Republic of China since 1949. Not even close to 2000 years old.

As for why some people in the west feel entitled to tell China what to do... Part of it, I think, is because many people here feel that they personally built China up with their spending and shopping habits. So they feel entitled to dictate on issues like worker rights, how much pollution China should be allowed to create, whether they should be allowed to torture animals, etc, etc. We've also seen a lot of people demanding China shut down their wet markets as of late, because they still believe those were the source of COVID-19.

i'm guessing a lot of people passing judgment are basing it solely on what they hear from MSM which is propaganda.

it's quite hypocritical for us to talk down to a (then) developing country about pollution when we've already gone passed our industrialization era and were the world's largest polluter then.
at this point, I see more green initiatives being passed by China than the US, who ironically pulled out of the paris accord recently.

exactly, communist in name.
for the most part, they have economic freedom, travel freedom, freedom of employment, etc.

I wonder how many here who are critical of china, have actually spent considerable time in china recently.
I traveled there a few years ago, and it was nothing, and I mean NOTHING, what I expected it to be.

we were told they are an oppressed people who cannot think for themselves. it couldn't be further from the truth.
the level and pace of development has surpassed america's. the number of startups and unicorns, the incorporation of technology in everyday life (street vendors accept payments only via phone apps), the infrastructure development (high speed rail and local mass transit), has surpassed ours, making us look backwards in comparison.

They have a very competitive state capitalist economy. They indeed are investing wisely in their future with infrastructure and technological research and the party understands that its continued existence depends on the continued economic prosperity of the people.

That said, it far from a free country. Yes, they can travel freely, have the freedom to work/start businesses, etc, but the press is strictly controlled and information is not readily available to people. Almost all protest is forbidden and shut down at once with force. Moreover, ethnic peoples such as the Tibetans and the Uyghur and their cultures are forcibly suppressed.

It's a mixed bag.

I really have to wonder how much China is paying to fund these posts aimed at making people forget that China has killed 80,000 Americans, and counting. That they have ignored international standards on fair trade and manipulated currency values. To say nothing of slaughtering 1000 of their own people in Tiananmen Square, for daring to question their leaders. To say nothing of killing 10s of millions of their own citizens in order to implement socialism under Mao. China is just as brutal and barbaric now as it was under that little tyrant.
