Sobering assessment from noted economist and public policy analyst, Jeffrey Sachs. His entire commentary on The US's situation can be found in the video below from minute 6:18 to 7:48. Did I say sobering? Listen to Dr. Sach's critique for an unnerving, even scary estimation on the predicament Trump has put America in.

Panel member on MSNBC.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That's about the lowest form of life on TV. Panel "discussions" are the worst. Everyone competing for screen time.. stupid.

OP, what are your thoughts about Thomas Sowell? He's also a "noted economist" with a cv that probably dwarfs this panel member's.

The economist in question is Dr Jeffrey Sachs, he is an American economist, liberal, academic, public policy analyst and former director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University. He is known as one of the world's leading experts on economic development and the fight against poverty, especially in Africa.

So why would I care what he thinks? Did you think the "Harvard" attachment would impress someone? ..... Because it hasn't.
The previous administration was filled with Harvard grads. And they made a wreck of US policy.

Oh noes, hes all educated, must mean he is wrong.

educated and world renowned? Hah, what does he know.

A common thing done by authoritarian and fascist governments is to go after the educated, I see its been effective with some folks.

Conservatives feel the same way about Harvard as liberals do about Liberty U or Bob Jones.

I agree with the OP and history will as well.

"Harvard educated" is an appeal to authority fallacy.

Economics across the entire country comes down to the same couple dozen textbooks. If you read Mankiw at Harvard, or read his book at Turnpike Tech...it's the same f**king book. The brick and mortar box you find yourself in while reading that same book confers no special transformation of the words printed therein.

But we have this thing with conferring expertise and even nobility upon people for where they were when they were reading a book, and we imbue them with infallibility based on that expertise/nobility. It's fascinating, how fast Americans deify others.

It was just a minute and a half attack on Trump, I don't care what his credentials are, during the entire diatribe the only thing he said was 'orange man bad'. You don't need a Harvard degree and be an economist to say that.

Most disappointing is that he offered 0 actual points of action, it was just blah blah trump blah blah trump blah blah (at least in the time span offered by OP, I didn't watch the entire video so maybe he actually offers up something other than what a 5 year old would say about someone they didn't like on the playground).

What's sobering is that stuff like this gets proffered as 'insight' by our press and folks here on CD and apparently others just lap it up. That is the worst disaster in modern history.

Well, Sowell called Trump's trade war with China "an utter disaster"

https://reason.com/2018/11/26/thomas-sowell-returns/

And of impeachment he had this to say in 2016:

How impeachable is Hillary Clinton? Since she would be “the first woman president,” any criticism of her, much less any impeachment, would bring loud howls from the media across the country. Hillary in the White House would have a blank check, and she would not hesitate to use it.
Donald Trump has no such exemption. Neither the media nor congressional Republicans would automatically spring to his defense, if he overstepped the line. His impeachability may be his most important asset in a year of painful choices.

https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2016/10...er-to-impeach/

Sowell doesn't appear to be a fan of Trump either.
