Well, I'll give the Trump Administration credit for consistency in their refusal to be influenced by the facts.

Not unexpected.

This is mostly the NY metro pandemic, with a few hot spots, less significant in casualties, elsewhere.

Texas 58 in a day? 29 million people.

NY, even now, calls 58 the mid-afternoon shift. 161 has been the NY average the last 5 days through Saturday 5-16.

Texas will remain with a far below US average cases and covid deaths per capita.

A fact you failed to mention.

PS: Ga & Fl are also faring better than the US average. Course, Cuomoville does spike the US average a great deal-badly!!

Heck, even the NYT has accurate data if you look hard enough: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-us-cases.html

Just look at the data and ignore the FUD from their writers.

Texas has a much larger population of NY. Fortunately, they also manage to put an intelligent person in the governor's mansion. I don't recall reading of Texas forcing nursing homes to accept covid patients.

Very good news indeed. This will help the more *cautious* governors to follow.

To be fair though, Cuomo did send body bags to nursing homes, too.

LL Duce was So thoughtful.

Dye expects a “significant decline” in Texas GDP in the second quarter. He also said that if coronavirus cases spike later this year, he would expect a “major pullback in the economy” immediately. Dye added that the effects could manifest long-term in businesses reluctant to bring on staff as they worry about repeated shutdowns leading to a cycle of hiring and firing.

There will be more unemployment with lockdown and with reopening that causes the number of cases to spike. That's because people will be quarantined from shopping and from work. If enough people at the same establishment have to stay home, that business will have to shut down entirely.
