I have to admit drawing the minimum $820 a week unemployment as an Independent Contractor is pretty nice. I can draw this through July and only if I close on a home it delays that weeks check.

Restaurants, salons, etc cannot find workers willing to come back to work now because they can earn easily 2 times what they made prior to the shutdown due to the original CARES Act. Much of that money will be paid through Dec 31.

There is also a good chance they will extend these benefits with the next Bill.

Not a bad deal.

Is Trump’s signature on the checks?

Yes. I pointed out earlier that the Democrats pushed through this "overpayment for not working," thus making it nearly impossible for struggling businesses, once they are able to open, to find staff. Especially on the lower-end of the scale, nobody is going to give up $3000 a month or more for remaining unemployed and instead take an unskilled, tedious job paying $1600 a month. It's a sneaky way the Dems have of keeping the unemployment rate artificially high - at least up until Election Day.

Nice try, but the Leftists had Trump over a barrel - delaying the bill until they could get their demands met. Trump knew people needed money, and Dems essentially said "give them TWICE what they could earn or they get nothing at all."

Trump has no power, no great deal making skills and just a puppet for all the bad, evil people in the world?

That's sad.

And Im screwed. Cannot collect because I kept my main job but my income is down ~1200 a month due to 2nd job furlough.

Lost my 2nd PT job. Giving it several more weeks to see when the furlough ends from Reichs Governor Smurphy. If not soonish. Less competition for me when I have to apply elsewhere.

Is this money from the same bill that gave big companies millions?

Does NY state UI give more than other states?

It is starting to really feel like that. I am really starting to wonder if he has any control.

Nope. The Dems had him between a rock and a hard place. Took three years of trying, and then this virus appeared out of nowhere. They saw their opportunity to keep people unemployed, and they took it.

Why ELSE would you demand that unskilled workers making $1600 a week get $3500 if they remain unemployed? Because the Dems WANT people unemployed, at least until Election Day. Even the NYT wrote a piece questioning how high the unemployment rate needs to be in order for Trump to lose. (I think they're wondering if they overshot.)

family member is a mechanic his shop "furloughed" all the guys who did the grunt work i.e. things like oil changes and tires. They kept the real mechanics on to do this work as "essential workers". the mechanics took a big pay cut(basically 50%) because such jobs don't pay a real commission rate but earned them just enough not to get any Government subsidies. Meanwhile the low end guys they cut are taking home a 1k a week, twice their normal salary. Recently they decided to bring one guy back and he refused saying why should he come back at half pay? They had to tell him to be there within two days or else they would inform unemployment he refused to take his job back. I imagine a lot of employers are going to have to threaten this and follow up on it.
