He hates Trump so much that he can't control his emotions and he feels compelled to verbally abuse students. This hateful person should not be teaching students.

“Why don’t you just drop dead, you neo-nazi enabler,” said professor Lax to student Gabriel Montalvo during an argument on Facebook.
“I’m too educated to think you are honest,” added Lax in another comment to Montalvo. “I know someone defending the indefensible. Neo-nazi murderer lover. That’s all you are.”
There are a great number of vile, hate-filled people on the left. Not all-but enough. Sadly, the worst, most pathetic and most hate-filled often seem to make it a point where they can unleash their vitriol on children, rather than adults.

The irony of a leftist Columbia professor calling a student a neo-Nazi enabler is rich since Columbia has been rated the most antisemitic college in America.
Because parents who are focused on making their kids wealthy and having high status correctly calculate that an Ivy League degree makes these things more likely than going to ordinary state universities. It's a club, and you and I ain't in it.
It depends what you major in. I've worked with a number of ivy grads and most public universities have sections or departments that are just as hard to get admission to as the Ivy leagues.
The whole school status thing is imo more of an east coast bragging rights thing and is less important in other parts of the country.

Rather than reading the Brightbart filtered version I read the NY Post article they are a rag paper in their own right but more even handed in their stories.
First this is not a school age child these are two adults and the one is not even a student at Columbia University he is "The NYS Vice Chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly" (love the Ecuadorian flag on his page) this is occurring over social media.
The comments are not right but the article and the attached tweets are only showing the punch line not the lead up. His actual tweet was where there was an escalating argument going on which culminated with the comment, You can read more of it here: https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=14870 but even this source may not be showing it all.
Reading Montalvo's posts he is a Right Wing Trump supporter which is his right but he also posts inflammatory statements and arguments but then feigns offense when the response turns nasty.
It’s time to abolish tenure. Any professor who exhibits such despicable and inexcusable hatred for a student (for no reason other than he doesn’t like the way he voted) should have security show up in his office, wait while he clears out his personal items, and be escorted off campus.
There is no room for such divisive, intolerant hate mongers in higher education.
Post secondary education needs a complete redo. For the vast majority of students, college is about increasing their value to future employers. All the platitudes about "finding ones self" are high level bovine scatterings for most. Yes there are the Harvards of the world that are keepers of the brightest and highest, but not for ?90%? of the students. Degrees for the 90% should be redone, including increased usage of 2+2 (first two years at county college level with 100% transfer) degrees and also including awarding an associates level degree for 100% of students getting to say 80 structured semester hours. That way if life interrupts their education, they still got their AS/AA and can pick up again later to work toward their BS/BA.

Absolutely - especially your idea of the 2 + 2 model. Right now, only about half of entering college freshmen graduate from ANY college within six years. The other half has no college degree, and a mountain of debt which the liberals now want other people to pay off.
There also should be two tracks, based on high school achievement. Those in the bottom third take a vocationally-oriented program at CC. If they “shine” and do well, they will stay in CC another year to get more academic credit and then transfer to State U with an academic scholarship. Thus, poor-performing students in high school still get a chance to turn it around, but if they continue trailing near the bottom in CC, at least they will have some job training.

This man has failed to find peace in his life and his intemperate outbursts do little to achieve contentment.
It is not surprising that many liberals engage in violent rhetoric; it is simply a manifestation of their personal despondency which often erupts in violent verbal attacks.
Must be a requirement at Columbia to hate USA and the military to be a professor at their university.
