Exactly. OP would be complaining just as loud if this individual did not have this background and experience. All things lead back to "orange man bad".
Given the recent antics of pharma including companies such as Valeant Pharmaceuticals, as well as individuals such as Martin Shkreli, it's worrying that big pharma has anything to do with policy decisions. They already do enough lobbying without putting pharma excutives in insider roles. Perhaps a better chouice would be someone with knowledge in fraud investigations and the manipulation of prices and markets.
Yes. In the broadest sense, it's fine to have ties to the industry. What's not good, is to have someone picking the winners in a multibillion-dollar game, who themselves has large monetary interests in who wins. It's a clear conflict of interest.
