Probably Clinton. She wants him to act as a human shield. After he absorbs more of the damage, the DNC will toss him out like last week's left overs, and install Hillary. Thankfully, she will lose again.

My nightmare situation is if they install Hillary as VP or, as you say, a last-minute replacement for demented old Joe. They could even do it after the debates so she would be shielded from having to answer for anything or go head-to-head with Trump.
There are enough angry, nasty leftists to turn out in droves for her, but still....imagine how the Bernie Bros would feel. HE rightly should be the replacement, and they will refuse to vote for Clinton, like last time, or actually pull the lever for Trump.
