Trump announces that houses of worship are ‘essential,’ demands governors open them up

"The governors need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now--for this weekend," Trump said. "If they don't do it, I will override the governors."

No one caught it.... He declared the USA essential. We The People, are the USA.
We consent, or we do not consent to governments wishes..... They can ask and I can respectfully decline and say NO.

There is nothing stopping them from religious observance just need to avoid crowds, go with open air and online they don't get to avoid health guidance. I am more concerned about opening up schools that should be the focus, plenty of other problems without this.

More bluster by Trump, he isn't doing anything but preaching to his base.

Default President Trump demands states reopen houses of worship 'right now'

Good, let the people decide.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-dem...190245549.html

Quote:
President Trump said Friday that he wanted state governors to allow the nation’s houses of worship to reopen “right now” despite the ongoing health risks from the coronavirus pandemic posed by large gatherings of people.

“Today I’m identifying houses of worship — churches, synagogue and mosques — as essential places that provide essential services,” Trump told reporters gathered in the White House press briefing room. “Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but have left out churches and other houses of worship. That’s not right.”

Problem is, they’re gonna prolong the problem. A cashier is gonna end up coming across one of them, she spreads it and we’re back to square one...

By that logic, it should be unconstitutional to stop people from stoning women to death if their religion calls for it.

The shutdowns aren't trying to stifle religion - anyone can be any religion without going to a crowded indoor space.

Yep. He has, yet again, provoked a cultural and political fight over the pandemic.

Quote:
President Trump on Friday called on states to allow places of worship to open immediately and threatened to “override” any governors who do not comply with his demand, opening a new cultural and political fight over when to lift public health restrictions put in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump did not specify what legal authority he has to back up his threat, and White House officials declined to answer questions about what actions he was prepared to take, leaving it unclear how serious the president is about following through on his declaration.
Here we go again...this is his MO. One can fill in the blank with any number of issues in place of the word pandemic and then the typical WH response. He is full of hot air and, as always, seeks only to divide these United States of America.

This is just another transparent political move as we all know conservative religious leaders are an important constituency in Trump’s political base.

Quote:
Trump’s assertion of authority over how states handle religious gatherings is the latest salvo in his vacillating approach to the outbreak. He has often said governors are in charge of responding to the pandemic only to criticize policies, particularly in states led by Democrats, that he deems too strict even if they match the recommendations put out by his administration.

Public health officials continue to warn against mass gatherings or settings in which people will be in close quarters, and note that religious gatherings have been the source of several outbreaks. Some states put congregations in the same opening category as theaters.
Quote:
Deborah Birx, a leader on the president’s coronavirus task force, added some caveats to Trump’s blanket demand for churches to open now, including that perhaps some church leaders may want to “wait another week” based on local health conditions.
“I think each one of the leaders in the faith community should be in touch with their local health department so that they can communicate to their congregants,” she said during the same White House briefing.
Quote:
White House officials have grown fearful that the president’s numbers are slipping among evangelical voters, a key group to fortifying his political base of support.

Trump's own ADMINISTRATION GUIDELINES noted that the “act of singing may contribute to transmission of covid-19, possibly through emission of aerosols.”

During a choir practice in Washington state, one person ended up infecting 52 other people, including two who died, according to a CDC report last week about what it described as a “superspreader event.”
Some officials of the WH discussed simply "releasing the new CDC guidelines without fanfare, but Trump decided to do an event so he could get public credit for fighting for churches against his own administration's guidelines." Yep he wanted public credit for the mixed messages so he could light a new cultural and political fire-fight over the pandemic. So here we have the latest evidence of his divisive form of governing...certainly not leadership, folks. Oh, and of course his definition of governing is CAMPAIGNING to keep the job he doesn't do.

Most likely he'll back down as he usually does, but the fire will be raging on forums like this and other social media platforms and in our not so United States of America, all per the Donald's plan.

Trump is just trying to get attention and trying to feel relevant. He'll back down and say the opposite tomorrow. He's just sticking his puny finger in the wind, as usual. Can't trust the guy with anything but chaos.
I hope that he doesn't back down. It is about time that the mosques were allowed to reopen.

Except from the places that have already begun reopening, that isn't the case. Plus, what makes Walmart immune to being a virus vector and churches not?

Don't ask questions that make so much sense......

Funny though, liberals hate Walmart and churches pretty equally....
