About 35 years ago I was sitting at lunch next to Jeane Kirkpatrick, a onetime Democrat who became a foreign-policy adviser to President Reagan and later U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She was lamenting what she called the “liberal leaning” media. As the president of CBS News, I assured her it was only a “liberal tilt” and could be corrected.
“You don’t understand,“ she scolded. “It’s too late.”
The damage from the left wing is already done and has been for longer than people think. It's too late, really, for anybody to cover up or clean up. People already see that there is liberal bias. It doesn't really take a rocket science to figure that out.
On the contrary, Trump and the right wing have already caused incalculable damage to the U.S. And people are tired of the phony conspiracies, the blame game, the insult mongering, the lies, the weakening of worldwide respect. The office of the President has been substantially degraded by this President more than ever in our history.
The right wing is predictably biased and sees the left as biased, but consistently every poll taken from the beginning of the Presidency has shown Trump polling disapproval over approval. Even Fox news polls. Now that the disapproval polling is cresting over Covid19 Trump faces the prospect of losing the election, he is given to mentally imbalanced tirades, accusations, phony conspiracies, and downright disgusting name-calling. In our entire history we have never seen the likes of this before.
And his followers drink the Kool Aid and defend the monster.
