We've reacted like this virus, a slightly more aggressive Flu, is Anthrax, Ebola, and the Plague and a guaranteed death sentence. People (Leftists) are totally nuts today.
You realize that this virus has killed exponentially more people than Anthrax, Ebola and the Plague has in the last 50+ years, combined, don't you?
(Disclaimer: I did not fact-check that last statement, I believe it would be true for the last 100 years. Pretty sure that if you get into WW1, Anthrax might have bigger numbers, but in the context of war.)
Point: I WISH we'd react like we do to those things. We acknowledged them, dealt with them, and did not let them defeat us. Now we have (and I think this is the OP's valid point) two opposite sides of the issue, being defeated by COVID. One side is happy to let it kill us all strait on, as long as their stock portfolio is OK, and the other side wants to over-react and shut everything down, no matter what.
Why can't we just open up, be methodical about it, acknowledge the dangers and adjust? (Mostly we are, but obstructionist Trump is not patient enough to do it smartly, hence his plans to throw caution to the wind.)
If you don't realize this isn't about the 99% survival rate (probably a low guess at that), but instead about the UNKNOWN hospitalization rate - then YOU aren't paying attention. This is not - and never was - about the dead people. Dead people don't need hospitals.

It's not anything even approaching a death sentence unless you are old and already comprised. Get a grip. This is totally ridiculous.
Right now the media is salivating over the "100,000 deaths" narrative. Never mind that that is 100,000 out of 330 MILLION, never mind that that is inline with a bad flu season, never mind that people are dying of other things, oh, and never mind it is a fraction of abortions.
The low information types only see "100,000". No further thought necessary or required.
That would make more sense if it were true, but every State is re-opening, so it is fake news.

Everything about this works in Trump's favor. You are conditioned to see yourself, and your party as a perpetual victim of all kinds of conspiracies, and that is a part of the mainstream Republican / pseudo-conservative DNA. It is like the "signature in the your cells"

That may be how you see it, but I think most people wear masks our of courtesy to others, since they are in face designed to protect others from you, not you from others.
As for 'lock-down', it's over in vast majority of the country. Why some people insist they are still locked down only proves the "poor victim me" mentality which is engraved in the DNA of the pseudo-conservative mind.
