What we are seeing now is the culmination of a near 50 year War On Drugs. That has done little to keep anyone off drugs. It has over flooded our prisons with non violent people. It has taken fathers out of the home. And the side effect is massive violence all over the country. This is after spending literally trillions at this point. It's time to put this to an end, it's not working.

As we have reached 20% unemployment the impending automation of large portions of the workforce, and potential long term recessions. In addition to unprecedented levels of government overreach and police misconduct. It is clear that something radical must be done. We need to empower people. We need to make people more free not less free. We need to also take advantage of a market that grosses close to $900 billion annually.

Insanity is the act of repeating yourself thinkng that you'll get better results. Police have been emboldened since the dawn of the War On Drugs. And this brazen level of misconduct has been facilitated by backwards and inefficient policies that encourages irresponsible law enforcement. We need to attack the problem at the root. End the war on drugs. Open up the drug market. Make money. And let's fix this problem we caused on ourselves before it gets worse.

I predict that now that looters have seen how easy it is to smash and grab in a matter of 10 seconds and get away looting of pharmacies will continue long after the riots have ended.

I agree. It would have a positive impact on many families. Those imprisoned for victimless crimes should have their records wiped clean and helped toward a new start. Perhaps free educational courses and other help entering society again. Over time, we would see crime and poverty decrease.

Essentially he is saying that Government is a legalized MOB (Mafia). He's right. Complete with armed thugs.

Statism 101: automatically criminalize activities/individuals by statute despite no inherent victim in act itself (a requirement for a crime).

Create "problem" that can only be solved with the monopoly of political "authority" and force known as government. Create black market. Tax dollars pour in, programs created, "war" waged, Nixon floods the ghettos with drugs, and the State gets fat & happy off the industry.

Remember in Goodfellas where Ray Liotta's character (Henry Hill) says that the mafia was basically a police force for wise guys?

Drugs are a necessary "problem". Without "problems" to fix how will government justify all the evil things it "has to do".

And that's how "this thing of ours" (the mafia known as statism) works.
