He's sounding off due to blackmail or a bribe. Probably blackmail. Or he was threatened.
Occam's razor. Trump screwed up and Mattis is calling him out for it.

I agree the economy was going to crash with the shutdown, not Trumps fault. However Trump did not create the "Trump economy" he inherited the Obama economy was going smoothly before Trump took over.

Now that is really poor reasoning...

It doesn't matter what percentage of the entire US population voted for anyone. It only matters how many:
a) of voting age AND
b) registered to vote AND
c) actually went to the polls AND
d) elected the representatives to the Electoral College, which actually elects our President.

And even if you really want to follow your twisted logic, bear in mind that your girl, Hilary, would have had a whopping 23.01%. That's if the alleged 3 million more that voted for her were actually valid voters....

Spin it however you want......The economy in 2016 was ok and had largely recovered from the meltdown of '08 (caused in some part by Obama's election).

But when Trump took it over, it spiked into never-before-seen heights of greatness. And sorry, but Trump gets the credit for that.

What policies put in place by Obama improved the economy, specifically?

I am not a Democrat and cannot stand Obama but GDP growth remained about the same under Trump as the 4 previous years under Obama. Look at any long term chart of the stock market, GDP or unemployment and you will not see a sudden long term change during the Trump years. Just a continuing up trend.

The stock market had about the same growth rate the last 4 years of Obama as it did from the start of the Trump white house up to the pandemic. You look at unemployment rates from 2010 to 2020 and the rate dropped at about the same rate per year over than entire time.

What we did get is a massive increase in the deficit even before the pandemic. Something Trump also has in common with Obama.

Trump inherited an economy going in the right direction but was saddled with massive deficits which were a big reason the economy was going up and kept the economy going and the deficits going up.

To try to rewrite history to make Trump look better is ridiculous.

“Donald Trump is the first president in my lifetime who does not try to unite the American people—does not even pretend to try. Instead, he tries to divide us,” Mattis writes. “We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.”

The problem is that he, along with a ton of people, but responsibilities on presidents that they should not have. And I am including all presidents in this.

It's not his job to unite everybody. It's our job.

And right now, a good portion of of populous, like a cancer, is set out to destroy ourselves. Trump can't fix it. Obama can't fix it. It's a cancer. Setting fires to our own stuff is a cancer on the country. Local governments, who allow cities that they govern to be destroyed and allow their residents to be harmed, is a cancer on the country. It's a total cancer.

It's not solely Trump's fault or Obama's fault - it's our fault. Sorry - but it is what it is.

The remedy is dealing with the absolute truth of what is taking place... not relative or perceptive truth - but absolute truth. That's where it starts. You won't get it in the media. Truth is hard to obtain when the media mixes truth with lies - and the cancer spreads. We don't even want the truth anymore. Until that happens - the cancer will continue to spread.
Correct. The country has been divided for decades and it keeps getting worse, for a number of reasons.
1. Left wing education system
2. Dishonest and unfair media
3. Creeping socialism

It's not Trump's job to fix the divide - it's our job to listen to the other side and make compromises.

Not policies I agree with but massive spending and dropping interest rates to near zero. Propping most of the big players up and handing out helicopter money. Pretty much what we are doing now. You throw enough money at the economy it eventually kicks into gear or crashes again with hyperinflation.

What did Trump do to keep the economy growing? Cut taxes and regulations which I do agree with. But Obama gave him a good economy on a silver platter. Of course Obama expected to be handing it to Hillary.

And Trump promised to be able to do your taxes on a post card, totally simplifying the process and a 2nd round of tax cuts. But none of that happened.
