There weren't any Black man fighting next to Brees's grandfathers, unless specifically noted by them. To state that there were is absolutely stolen valor.
The first response printed in the article, by Michael Thomas, says it all in contrast with Brees's articulate expression:
"He don't know know better".
Thomas is a grown adult and yet can't think well enough to conjugate a verb.
Based on that alone, I'll side with Brees's thoughts and judgement.
Forcing people that pay money to relax and be entertained to instead watch a political agenda in which they disagree is wrong. I am done with the NFL. The entire "America is Racist" narrative is false and WRONG. I am tired of being told I am racist, when I am not.
WRONG! Nobody is forced to watch anything they don't want to while watching TV or while at the stadium. You can change channels or turn your head until the game starts.
Football is entertainment. The players are paid to entertain. It's not a time for politics and it's especially not a time for insulting your fan base. Most football fans are patriotic. They take offense to insulting the country. Kneeling during the national anthem is a deliberate slight meant to offend. These players want fans to have to make a choice between their love of football and their love of country. This will end badly for the NFL.
Kneeling is about freedom in America. Would you quit watching NFL just because you spotted one of the player's lips not moving while the National Anthem was playing?
That America is in distress...as the abolitionists often flew the flag upside down. Not as a shiw of disrespect.
It just doesn't make sense at all. Is America in distress or really just the black people? The American flag represents all of America, does kneeling mean all of Americans that are not black are racist against black? By kneeling, that is a show of disrespect to all the men and women who died for this country and for the FLAG, not to highlight police brutality, you see the disconnect?
Funny thing is, here is the definition of kneeling: Verb. kneel before. (transitive) to kneel in front of someone or something, especially in order to worship or supplicate. LOL dumb Kaepernick thought he could make a symbol out of it.
How about if they kneel in front of police stations, that would be more appropriate and direct.

These post are just sad. Either you believe racism exist in this country or you don't. There is no middle ground on the issue. You are willing to defend the flag and anthem for it's meaning but you don't want to bother when a segment of society is telling you that they don't have the same faith in it's word as you do. Either minorities are lying are you refuse to face simple facts. You can't be patriotic and accept the ills of this country in the same breath. You can't imagine minorities not seeing this country the same way as you...while all the time they are telling you why. You can either lower your guards and listen or continue to0 wear the blinders. Just because you refuse to see it does not mean it is not there. History always reveals the truth so the real answer is what side of history do you want to be on.
