The complete disband the police and let people who aren't really trained fully in that regard do it is throwing the baby out of the bathwater.
We should clean the bathwater by having citizens boards that hold police accountable, no knee/choke holds, getting rid of no-knock warrants, and making it easier to weed out the bad cops and those who cover for them. Then place the baby in there.

Cops are dealing with criminals who do not (by definition) agree with the rule of law and civil behavior. Far, far more cops are killed by criminals than the other way around.
When you are dealing with violent animals, you must use force. Criminals do not respond to "time outs" or reasoning. The only thing they understand is force.

Less cops? Cut their pay so they only make minimum wage? Good luck with that. If anything, shouldn’t we increase the funding for the police so they can get better training to prevent things like George Floyd happening again? Maybe the cities that want to defund them should, then they can see how bad things would be in their cities. Somebody robbing your house? Too bad. A creep raping you? Tough luck. School shooting? You’re on your own.

I don't get it either. It's crazy talk to me. The head of the Minneapolis City Council was discussing it and I doubt she has a serious clue what she's talking about.
I think that 'defund the police' means using more discretion in deciding which tasks that cops are now performing could be better done by someone else. Cops are tasked with 'managing' the mentally ill and homeless, wouldn't it be better to have those problems managed by professionals are trained and equipped to manage them? It also means to look at what cops are doing and decide if those jobs could be done just as well by trained but unarmed civilian employee?
No, "defund" the police means exactly that: eliminate monetary funding. And without funding, the police department goes "poof" into thin air. What you are describing might properly be called "reform" the police or maybe "redirect" the police or "reallocate" the police.

There are some who are passionate about their jobs.
A friend of mine has been pulling security for news teams (requested by name) in a major city near us. I swear he is making bank!!!! He cannot become a policeman because of his injuries from the military, but honestly he would be one I would want on my side if stuff went real. He has years of military training on his side.
In the end it comes down to training. I would rather fund more training so they know what to do than to resort for not being trained to the best extent.
All this stuff about training is nonsense. Most cops are already trained correctly, it's the ingrained mentality of us vs them, you can't rat on another cop, and shut up and pay your taxes and I'll do what I want.
Then there's the, "yeah, my partner gets a little crazy sometimes" ie likes to beat people up sometimes.
that's what needs to change. Training doesn't change that, accountability changes that. You commit abuse, you get discipline or firing, you look the other way at your comrades abuse, you get discipline or firing.
That's how George Floyd doesn't happen. It's the culture of police forces that is sick, and please don't tell me otherwise. I have like 8 cops in my neighborhood and hear the talk at parties when they are feeling comfortable.

We can't be sure until we do it in every major Democrat city across America for at least 5 years. To give it a fair chance to succeed, we need to have strict gun control laws in those cities too. Pass the popcorn!
