People can't even knock on their neighbor to turn down the music.
Yet, they think they can police themselves without cops?
American society is a litigious society. We rather have police to be litigious than putting ourselves in that situation. Ask George Zimmerman how that works out for him.
The short answer is most proponents are looking for the police to focus on the things that actually require police officers, and the things that do not to be handled by someone else. We need to ask ourselves, does every single issue require a SWAT trained armed officer? Probably not. So why don't we use someone else for those cases/calls.
Police certainly need to be held more accountable for their actions than they have been, but I wouldnt want to get rid of them altogether, that would be crazy.
I can't imagine people wanting to become cops now.
Looks like Camden, NJ and it has been working well. Crime is down, use of force is down, and community engagement is up. They blew up the department and started over from scratch.

Defunding the Police Departments is a stupid idea but we have to consider the people that are suggesting it....
I think the Police across the country should all call in sick one day and we will then see how important those good dedicated people are to our society.
Imagine what "a day without a cop" would look like?
Lets see how many drug arrests DO NOT happen that day too!
I think we would see some crime increase initially, but over time, I think crime in general would go down, like over a 8-12 month period, citizens would begin defending themselves and their property, if someone breaks in, they shoot the person on the spot, case closed...this kind of behavior will lead to a major decrease in crime.
