The issue is that the Neo-Marxists infiltrated the Democratic Party and have seized control of numerous public and private institutions. Twitter employees are overwhelmingly SJW's. Same is true of Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, CNN, WaPo, NYT, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, the vast majority of colleges and universities, Hollyweird, and on and on it goes. These institutions aren't being controlled by good old common sense Liberals. They're being overrun by Neo-Marxist revolutionaries who want to burn everything down and institute their version of Marxist Social Justice utopia. A paradise where all inequities and all injustices will be cured forever. In short they want to give Marxism one more try. The do it all under the guise of things that nobody would ever argue with. "Anti-Fascism", "Black Lives Matter", etc.
What used to be a lot of intelligent and reasonable Liberals have gotten so used to submitting to the demands of these maniacs, I don't know that they know how to do much of anything else anymore. The older Liberals haven't spoken up against the ridiculous demands of the Far-Left progressives nearly often enough. As with most Marxist revolutions, the revolutionaries don't need anything close to a majority of the people supporting them. They only need the majority of people to do nothing while they take control.
Democrats and Republicans alike are doing exactly nothing to stop these little maniacs in the past 20 years or so.

Protest leaders slammed District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser for being on the "wrong side" of police brutality issues and painting “Black Lives Matter” on streets leading to the White House “to appease white liberals while ignoring our demands.”
“This is a performative distraction from real policy changes. Bowser has consistently been on the wrong side of BLMDC history,” Black Lives Matter D.C. tweeted Friday.
