Its all about the cash. Poppy = Billions, and Iran is strapped for cash due to the sanctions. Allowing Iran to get theri hands on the Poppy would allow them to skirt around the sanctions to some degree.

We must keep them bottled up & broke, until the sanctions grind them down.

We also need use of the airports in Afghanistan for staging.

When it comes to Afghanistan the right is the best at crafting excuses as to why we are there and the left if the best at pretending we aren't even there unless the president is a republican.

Not only did the anti-war movement collapse after the 2008 election, they were defunded and the true adherents that kept at it when there was no political gain to be had were eventually ostracized.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.
Would you become a "terrorist" to the Chinese Army if the Chinese invaded this country?

War sucks, this argument goes back to WW2 where Germany would cry about the firebombings while marching millions to a gas chamber and trying to firebomb England. *shrug*

Basically, neither side is more "moral" in this instance, just one is better armed.

FWIW I have long advocated for us to get out of there....and most other places as well.

Nobody has ever taken any mercy in that neck of the world...even if it was guys on horseback with bow and lance...rape and enslavement was the way things went.
A lot of armed Americans willing to fight invaders are embedded in civilian populations.

Who was it that said, you dont win the war by dieing for your country, but by making the enemy die for theirs? The tactics they use gives them the ability to stay alive to fight another day. It is why no nation has ever completely subdued them.

When we went after the Taliban at the start of the war, you had many switching to the northern alliance side in order to live another day, but those same people switched back to the Taliban to fight the US when the oppurtunity was right.

Remember 911 the reason we went over there 20 years ago and stayed
That was financially backed by the terrorist Saudi Royal Families, our greatest "allies" in the Middle East. You had many of the Saudi Royals financially supporting the jihad training camps in Afghanistan since it is one of the major pillars of Islam.

I get a kick out of watching the same people supporting dropping bombs on Muslim Terrorists while at the same supporting the Islamic Home Country where a lot of that is bankrolled.

In most cases the civilian population isn't willingly letting the Taliban into their villages.

The Taliban isn't a bunch of poor farmers who were minding their own business when they were invaded. They are Sunni Islamic fundamentalist extremists who murder other Muslims, often brutally, and they never cared if they were men, women or children. They often singled out educated women and village leaders for the worst of their brutality. Stop the false equivalency.

It is what they have done already and will do again if they get the chance.
The same Taliban we now support and ignore the attrocities they commit?

It reminds me of the outrage against China's human right abuses we railed against at the state level back in the 80s, but once they became our major trading partner and there was money to be made, all the human rights abuses were largely ignored.

That is why anytime there is a war or "military exercise" in another country, I look at the profiteers and who benefits rather than the usual, they are "commies or brown people or terrorists"

If we were against Terrorists and Commies, we would not be in bed with China and Saudi Arabia.
It is all theater for the masses.

Nonsense.
Paint a picture for me what you mean?

Is it a scorched earth policy where we carpet bomb the entire country until noone exists?
How many innocent people are you willing to kill in "collateral" damage.

Worst of all, all our allies will drop us like a hot potato because the civilians will demand it and our enemy countries will have a field day.

How will wall street and the rich exist if their source to cheap labor and widgets is destroyed?
