Not every American needs to be a cop. The same way I'm not about to go start working in the slaughterhouse if ICE comes and ships out these essential illegal immigrants. You can't force Americans to work. If they don't want the job, they don't have to have the job.
The more I think about, the more I feel like there is a parallel between police and teachers. Both are essential. Both have all sorts of rules and protocols you have to follow. One is trusted to educate and keep our children safe for 7-8 hours per day. The other is charged with keeping our children and community safe 24/7. But only one will get you fired for stepping a toe out of line while the other you nearly untouchable unless you kill someone. And even then... you just may get fired
It's easy to be an armchair quarterback, isn't it?
Law enforcement shouldn't be a "family tradition." Doing things according to "tradition" is how we got here. We need new types of people and real innovation to improve the system.
So we should abandoned tradition Irish, Polish, German, African, French, Russian and so on? This way we have new types of people and innovation

So you really think there's no place in our culture for respect for tradition?
Many leftist cities will likely follow this wave of foolishness and abolish police. You leftists may think you’ve won when that happens but think again. What do you think will happen? Business owners will arm themselves and their employees. Homeowners already usually have one or more weapons in the house. The average white middle class person will simply shoot the thugs when they try to do rob their homes and businesses. They will chase and confront drug dealers, form armed neighborhood patrols and the conflicts will increase. It won’t be officer Smith who confronts the suspicious looking people on the street it will be Bubba in his pickup with a 44 handgun. After all it’s his night. Bubba has no training at all. He has a gun. The thugs are uneducated criminals with a violent tendency. What do you think will happen?
Black people statistically commit more crime than other race groups. What will happen is white people will be shooting black criminals on a regular basis. Think we have race problems now? Just wait until that is reality.

How are you going to accomplish that? Defunding will stop vetting new hires, cancel valuable training and will produce a untrained poor police officer that slip through the cracks due to poor hiring standards.
In the long term, this is a good thing though...while unfortunate, it means, more incidents like Floyds death will happen...but the silver lining, the public is starting to stand up to police more, if police start making more 'mistakes', less and less people will support them.
