Well it's irrelevant to me, but I get your point. They are doing themselves no favors by going down this path, neither artistically, nor for long term entertainment value.
wrong angle for solving the problem. Make sure there are a wide array of voices at every part of the production side from writers to producers to actors to promotors to staffers. If that part gets worked on, there will be a wider variety of films. It isn't about the trophy, it is about getting the opportunity to make/influence the product.
Hollywood awards shows have become little more than elite circle jerks where celebrities gather to pat themselves on the back for how virtuous they are.
