Will someone tell me what this actually means? 600 officers reassigned, so where are the gaps they leave behind? Any cops on here know? What element of crime will this likely effect?

Article says NYC gun violence is at a two year high.

PBA: "“Anti-Crime’s mission was to protect New Yorkers by proactively preventing crime, especially gun violence. Shooting and murders are both climbing steadily upward, but our city leaders have clearly decided that proactive policing isn’t a priority anymore,” Lynch said in a statement. “They chose this strategy. They will have to reckon with the consequences.”

Ive seen these guys in my city before, but I still have no idea what they actually do all day!

A couple years ago, I had pulled over in this parking lot to read some papers for work (before going to my next work stop), all the sudden I see 2 guys coming up on both sides of car, they were dressed like construction workers, but they had their badges out...they come up to the window and ask what Im doing there, I showed them the papers I was looking over, as I didnt want to do this while driving. It turns out a store2 blocks away had just been held up and they were looking for the guy, I guess they thought I may be the 'get away car' or something. They eventually caught the guy later that day.

It left me wondering what these cops were doing all day, dressed as construction workers though?!

Plainclothes, so they blend in? I dunno this sounds wrong to me to eliminate this entire unit, but I'm hoping some actual cops respond and explain what the unit actually does do, and how eliminating it will affect crime?

Take away guns from law abiding, trained citizens or make it impossible for all but elites to aquire. Make defending your property, self and family illegal.

Take away cops so there is no one to stop criminals, or even to deescalate things like neighbor disputes - that will then result in violence and gunfire from illegal weapons. Empower street robbery, home invaders, drug sellers.

No more plainclothes cops, nor more SWAT teams, no more enforcement of laws.

Let drunks kill your families, let speeders go - let's all drive 110 mph - I've got a turbo mustang, pretty sure it'll go 140, maybe more. Let's find out!

How do you think this is going to end? Does the left - which uses guns to enforce their own version of tyranny, really think the right is going to hand over their guns? Do you really think we are going to let criminals rob and steal from us if the police quit? Yet the government makes it illegal for us to protect ourselves or our property. That pitts the law abiding people against the govt and police. Where are OUR rights?

The police have brought all this on themselves by failing to be Peace Officers and protect and serve, but instead became an occupying "us vs them" paramilitary force answering only to themselves, who time and again won't protect individuals or property, but use excessive force on minor crimes.

I would think that plain clothes would know more about what's going down on ground. I would think that they would be extremely important. I am not familiar with the NYPD though.

In 3.5 years, everyone will blame trump for rising crime rates.

It is what the voters want.

Whoa re we, us non-NYC residents at least, to be overly concerned what the voters in NYC want?

NYC is well on its way to becoming the dangerous hellhole it was before Giuliani took over. If the voters keep electing idiots like da Blasio and putting ridiculous liberal policies in place they deserve everything they get.

It all sounds good to the leftists now, but just wait until the murders, rapes, and muggings are on the rise with criminals roaming free without consequence. Maybe then the left will start to realize the disaster they've created.

How would the voters decide overnight to do this? No, this has nothing to do with voters. This is an action by a police boss under pressure from local politicians, very similar to many across the country preventing the police from doing their jobs, thus allowing mobs to take over like the one in Seattle.

Law-abiding voters are actually voiceless. If they have a say, the mobs would have faced legal consequences. But instead, they watched helplessly as thugs burned, looted, and destroyed businesses and livelihood in many communities.
