Doesn't say anything about abolish. Doesn't even say "completely withdraw" or "withdraw all" funding. If you cut the budget by a dollar, you could say you "defunded" the police.

I'll admit the connotation seems bad, and I'd probably agree they should have picked a better phrase to describe it, but that doesn't change the fact the word being used is accurate.
Sorry Democrats, you came up with this asinine phrase, now you're stuck with it and you own it. Just try defending this during the upcoming election. I understand the nuance of the idea behind it (although I still oppose this movement) , that it doesn't actually mean totally abolishing the police. This is horrible branding. Every single Democrat this fall will have to answer whether they want to defund the police or not. Just watch them twist and turn and try desperately to spin this. It will never work with the average voter. The Democratic Party is writing the campaign commercials for the Republicans...all the Republicans have to do is re-broadcast just some of the most idiotic statements from Democratic candidates from Biden on down to local mayor.

Maybe so. I guess we'll see.

Doesn't make the post I was addressing any more accurate, either way.
