why don't they just feature a modern black woman, like a mother or grandmother which would actually honor her.. maybe change the name if they felt like it. Aunt Betty or something could be the rename..
or make the mascot Aretha Franklin. NO one is gonna diss Aretha!
The late Hattie McDaniel appeared in over 200 feature films, most of them, including Gone With the Wind as a domestic servant; addressed the issue of her status as:
"In this town, I can play a maid for fifty dollars a day ..... or I can be a maid for fifty dollars a week."
It's unfortunate that she's not here to voice her feelings on this petty squabble.

And back in those times there were not many Black actors/actresses never mind winning an Oscar for their role.
The first Black person to win an Oscar.
Nah..all that is forgotten because people are triggered by the depiction of Blacks as slaves.
When I was a child, I found Aunt Jemima comforting and nurturing. Pancakes were one of the first things I learned to cook as a child. Mrs Butterworth, not so much. Lousy syrup!
As for Jemima's 'slave garb', my mother and women of her generation dressed the same way because they were traditional housewives. They protected their hair and 'good clothes' from dirt. Rosie the Riveter, an icon of WWII, wore her hair the same way.
Quaker Oats announced it will replace and rename its breakfast brand something else, because it has been accused of perpetuating a racial stereotype. Now we're getting ridiculous. Should we change the Quaker Oats image to reflect a faceless profile rather than an old white conservative religious man? That's a racial stereotype as well. How far is this going to go?
They probably don't like the afro and clean smile on Aunt Jemima. They'll just put a chick on the label with straightened hair, blue contacts, some facial piercings, bad attitude facial expression and wearing some type of fashion statement and it will all be good again.
It's helpful to keep your finger on the "pause" button so you can actually read the print ads depicted.
Well if that bothers you then you need to get all kinds of woke about BMW, Porsche, Volkswagon etc. history.
The fact is that pretty much any business or brand in the world that has been around for a while has something bad in their closet.
If the current depiction of Aunt J is racist then I see a point, but just because the initial depiction had racist roots I find it to be nothing but feel good white-washing of history as a means of self-promoting how much better the offended person is than everyone else.
Maybe have a banana (US government overthrows) and a coca-cola (cocaine ingredient) while you think that over watching a Disney (raging anti-semite) movie as you sit on your IKEA (fascist) furniture.
