I think you're looking for something to be offended by OP.
I think, having nothing worthwhile to say about that piece or my take on it, but still wanting to get some kind of shot in however lame, you have resorted to criticizing me just for noticing it.
I don't capitalize either, but I'm going to start capitalizing the word Me.
I started capitalizing Atheist on the Christain forum and it caught on for a while.

The author means the Columbia Journalism Review "the voice of journalism".

Most normal Americans don't capitalize "black" any more than they capitalize "white".
If a couple of mewling SJWs capitalize it, does that mean "everyone" is doing it? Hardly.
Well, typing "black" into Google News, and looking through the first 20 or so results, I see that Harvard Business Review, NBC News, USA Today, Science Magazine, Adweek, Lansing State Journal, The Cut, Yahoo Sports, The Los Angeles Times and The Boston Globe all capitalize "black". Articles in The Verge, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNN, ESPN, Fox News and The Washington Post do not. So it already looks like the capital Bs are in a slight majority. I predict that, within six months, close to 100% of news outlets will capitalize "black".
They can do whatever they want, however, it is incorrect.
"Black" is not an ethnic designation.
