As pressure mounts to address police brutality and racism, California's Santa Cruz is poised to become the first U.S. city to ban predictive policing - despite headquartering the firm that pioneered the technology.
Used by police forces across the United States for almost a decade, PredPol Inc - short for predictive policing - relies on an algorithm to analyse police records and identify crime-ridden areas to determine when and where officers patrol.
But critics says it reinforces racist patterns of policing - low-income, ethnic minority neighbourhoods have historically been overpoliced so the data shows them as crime hotspots, leading to the deployment of more police to those areas.
The stupidity of some people aka fools/ idiots, is truly amazing!!!
This technology is used all over the world to keep people safe!!
Essentially, they don't want to use any statistical data to decide how many/where/when when it comes to patrolling neighborhoods in the city. It is basically guaranteed to give them a less efficient police force and waste money. There has been some pushback here in Memphis in the past but I don't see how anyone can really argue that using statistical data to help you allocate police resources is a bad thing.
This is what BLM and their woke allies have asked for. Now, areas where predominately black people live will become more dangerous and black people will be hurt the most.
The final outcome of pointing your fingers at the symbol you most despise (cops) and ignoring what is really the issue in these communities (crime).
I support mandatory body cams, more civilian oversight, banning chokeholds, and weeding out bullies from police departments. But this is just a stupid political move.
Within a year or so there will be a massive backlash against all of these policies.

Well, there IS something to that, though. If you've got more cops patrolling, you'll discover more crime. That's just how it works. Like the more people you test for Covid, the more cases you'll discover.
And that's the reason why affluent people can get away with child abuse longer than people who are already in the "system" - whether it just be for poverty. When they go in to the food stamp office, or the WIC office, their children are weighed and inspected in a way that wealthy people who have financial resources don't have to present their children. Or open their door to a visiting caseworker doing an "intake" for Section 8 housing.
The more cops you have driving through the neighborhood, the more DWIs you'll discover.
It IS true, that the more you look, the more you'll find.
