No one is coming to my rescue. I don't need rescuing I'm just stating facts...
Please.
Those crazy liberal lunatics think the black population need saving - and they're the great white hope. Heck, Biden thinks you'd be back in chains in it wasn't for the Democratic party.
Never heard of Juneteenth until yesterday. Is this some new made up holiday like Kwanza?
Sounds stupid to me. The other day was the first time I've heard it said. Sounded like some one couldnt pronounce saying the date correctly. Anyway, I work for the city, I got the day off with pay. Same with Columbus day, idiots take the statue down, I still get the day off. BTW, Columbus never set foot on the land we know as the Lower 48 States.
I am absolutely disgusted that my catholic schools didn't teach us about this day. This should definately be a federal holiday.

I am a history buff so I have known of it for quite some time because of that fact. My public school education however taught me that the emancipation proclamation freed the slaves. When we learned about the emancipation proclamation it was never emphasized that the only slaves freed by that act were those who resided in states in rebellion against the US. For it to apply to any slave they would have to live somewhere like parts of Virginia or Tennessee that had seceded but had become occupied by federal forces. Not many slaves were freed by the emancipation proclamation. It is also taught that the 13th amendment was passed making slavery illegal forever.
Juneteenth is more of a Texas event and that is likely why it was never emphasized in history class. It is however a better day to define the end of slavery in this country as those slaves in Texas were the last major groups of slaves still living in bondage. It is important however to note that slavery ended at different times around the country for different reasons.
I am a conservative white male. I do not support BLM, detest the cultural marxists and will oppose socialism with every ounce of my being. I want that on the table as I have no intention of appeasing the SJW crowd with what I am going to say.
I am supportive of a Juneteenth holiday. It has real meaning in celebration of a real historical event. It means something to black Americans.
Where did you get that? This is a new thing that 90% of black Americans outside Texas had never heard of five years ago.
I'm all for it: has deep historical significance and should have been taught in school along with Lincoln freeing the slaves. I had vaguely heard of it before but am happily embracing it as a new National Holiday. Since it comes right between Memorial Day and 4th of July, it will probably just blend in as just another early summer holidays, a day off for BBQs, pool parties, and other summer holiday stuff.
I learned about Juneteenth when Obama and Bill Ayers used million$ in Annenberg Challenge grants to implement Juneteenth curriculum in Chicago's schools in the 1990s instead of using the money to improve academic outcomes for minorities. The kids still couldn't read or do math, but they were well-versed in identity politics.

When we lived back in the Eastern part of PA, and oldest DD (now 34) went to an urban public school, Black History and MLK projects were shoved down their throats the whole month of January. Funny, they skipped over Juneteenth. She'd never heard of it either.
