"Miss Chiquita has been criticized for perpetuating stereotypes of Latin Americans as primitive and Latina women as hypersexual.

The Food Empowerment Project, a sustainability non-profit, has described Miss Chiquita as “another way in which non-white bodies have been objectified and exploited.”

Why do I envision this "non-profit" being made up of a gaggle of AOC wannabes?

The company mascot "Miss Chiquita", now Chiquita Banana, was created in 1944 by Dik Browne, who is best known for his Hägar the Horrible comic strip. Miss Chiquita started as an animated banana with a woman's dress and legs. Vocalist Patti Clayton was the original 1944 voice of Miss Chiquita, followed by Elsa Miranda, June Valli and Monica Lewis. Advertisements featured the trademark banana character wearing a fruit hat. The banana with a fruit hat was changed into a woman in 1987.[33] A new Miss Chiquita design was unveiled in 1998.[6] Peel-off stickers with the logo started being placed on bananas in 1963. They are still placed by hand today to avoid bruising the fruit.

Can they just go back to the half woman/half banana freak-of-nature that was the original logo?

Or will people still want to get nasty with a fictional inter-species creature?

*Someone save this post for the Smithsonian archives so future generations understand the plight of those alive in the year 2020.

It is sad. Specifically, those little Brown people rely on those bananas for their livelihoods. It is probably the only source of income besides drugs they can make. Chiquita has done an excellent job marketing and selling them around the world.
