I think their family made their point. However the song is clearly about overcoming some adversity. It’s fitting for a trump campaign but it is also good to be cautious with the Tom Petty legacy.

Thus I do think that if trump still wants the song played that the Petty family should have a change of heart at one point, and allow it, with some stipulations. However,,, if the Petty family has an unAmerican ideology like what has infected the country then unfortunately I doubt trump would even want Toms song played.

I think that is how most truly excellent musicians like Tom might see it. He’d say yeah you can play it a few times but don’t over do it too much.

It has to do with Trump wanting to do whatever he wants and not have to ask permission from anyone. Nothing new here. This goes right along with how he operates. Nothing to do with the Petty family being unAmerican. Trump is the all supreme being, and doesnt want to be questioned by mere mortals.

Petty once threatened to sue George W. Bush for using one of his songs, “I Won’t Back Down” for a campaign rally. He sent the presidential candidate a cease-and-desist letter.

The Rolling stones did the same thing about Trump using one of their songs 4 years ago and to this day he still uses it.

Trump had a very bad week. Maybe he needs to play Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off".

But she hates him. Which leads to another song for Trump.....

"Everybody Hates Me" by the Chainsmokers.
