No risk of long-term government mandated shutdowns. No masks required by law.

Bye bye California. Tesla is apparently moving to Texas.

Tesla acquires $5 million worth of land outside Austin to build new factory

Tesla is buying a 2,100-acre piece of land (pictured above) just outside Austin to build the factory. The land is currently occupied by a sand and gravel mining site, but Tesla is buying the location for just over $5 million which was revealed in an application with the Texas Comptroller’s office. The construction of the new Tesla factory is set to commence in Q3 of 2020 pending all approvals.

Tesla is seeking approval from the local school district to forgive up to $68 million on its property tax bill over 10 years.

CEO Elon Musk has been referring to Tesla’s new factory as “Cybertruck Gigafactory” because it will be where Tesla produces its new electric pickup truck. However, Tesla also plans to produce Model Y at the factory and the Model Y production is expected to come online before Cybertruck production.

Electrek previously reported that Tesla aims to have a Model Y general assembly line running at the Austin factory by the end of the year. It’s a very aggressive goal, but Tesla is apparently far along in the process despite still seeking official approval from the authorities.
Leftists never seem to understand the basic fundamental realities of costs vs benefits and also the balance of supply and demand.

California's Democrat government overplayed its hand with regards to its coronavirus lockdown policy and Tesla has apparently had enough. This was not the only problem that Tesla had with the authoritarian, anti-business left that runs that state. But is looks like it might be the last.

This could create an estimated 5,000 jobs in Texas for this manufacturing facility. Presumably that many jobs will also be lost from California.

The original welfare queen (Musk) couldn't squeeze any more freebies out of California so he'll move on to a state that will give him his food stamps.

AUSTIN, TX...requires all businesses in the city to “develop and implement a health and safety policy or plan related to COVID-19” that must at minimum require facial coverings.

Businesses generally require masks here in Harris County too. Although this is going to wind down after a while, and if the control freak leftists that run Austin and other places cannot loosen their grasping within a timely manner, CEO Musk can take comfort in knowing that Governor Abbott will loosen it for them.

As if Austin isn’t crowded enough!! I wonder how much taxpayers paid for excessive incentives to move Tesla to Austin?

But they are not allowed to enforce it with either fines or jail time.

Tesla is applying for a waiver of $68,000,000 in property taxes related to Del Vale ISD. It has not been approved yet, but I would expect that it will be. That is a pretty small incentive amount to lure a facility of this magnitude to the state.

But then they will also have the incentive of not being asked to silently sit by while the company is throttled into bankruptcy by the control-freak Democrats who are in charge in California. That is surely worth a lot, too.
