Excellent book. Have also seen two movie versions (B&W from the late 50s and a color version from 1990). Instructive re: the de-evolution of a group of English private school boys after they crash land on an island.

I would assume that every single poster in this forum over the age of 40 had it as required reading in 9th or 10th grade.

Actually, there was a real "Lord of the Flies" event, in which a group of students were stranded on an island in the 1960s, ten years after "The Lord of the Flies" was published.

What happened? The opposite of that depicted in "The Lord of the Flies"; civil order was maintained, the students did not fight, and the weak were not victimized. It's funny that this tale has not gained the traction as the fictitious "Lord of the Flies".

Unlike BLM and ANTIFA, the school boys maintained social order and there was no violence; all survived (quite fit and not malnourished) and were rescued.

Along the same lines, when flooding occurs in the upper Midwest, there is no looting or violence. Put the same weather event in New Orleans and anarchy erupts.
