Many people stay home rather than go out and spend money, helping the economy. As long as there is no mask mandate, the economy will suffer because lots of people stay home rather than mingle with many maskless people who could be spreaders.
AIDS could have been stopped if people would just wear condoms and stop having promiscuous sex. If people won't stop THAT they're not going to wear masks and socially distance for 1-2 more years. We should just offer disability checks to people with conditions that make them susceptible so they can hole up while the rest of us go along with our lives.

Funny you say that.

I have a Chinese business visa and I did plan on moving there this year prior to the pandemic. Hopefully, I will get that opportunity next year.

Yes, I do.
People are not abstract numbers.
Losing 990,000 people is exactly like losing everyone alive in one of our largest cities would be.
More people than the population of the State of Wyoming.

I hope you were being sarcastic.

or we could not choose "herd immunity" which is a pointless myth, ecspecially bc immunity lasts like only 2 months anyway,

and we could instead decouple/go to war with china and have a more meaningful sacrifice, then just "giving up" on slowing the bioweapon
i'm willing to die fighting china for sending us their bioweapon.
and the more people affected by the bioweapon the more people are going to want revenge on the CCP.

well, the NY Times already did this back in March. The article is decent, because it covers some ground from the 1918 Pandemic. That was 675,000 (CDC's ESTIMATE) American deaths, right on the heels of WWI. Have we learned anything since 100 years ago?

you wanted a number - on a population of 330M, I'll put my chips down on 1.5M deaths with no vaccine breakthru, 800K with a partially effective vaccine. For historical comparison, we lost 405K Americans in WWII.

They say about 5% of Americans have had COVID-19 as of today and 120,000 have died. Herd immunity without a vaccine is about 80% of the people having the disease so multiply 120,000 times 16 and you have 1.92 Million. (On average 2.8 million Americans will die in any given year for all reasons.)

WTF happened? This is the country that turned itself into Democracy's Arsenal and put a man on the Moon. Now? Six-week attention span, if that.
It's not just that America can't be bothered to make the responsible, adult choice. Many are actively resisting doing the responsible, adult, science based right thing because of their "freedom".

There's an epidemic of willful, aggressive ignorance in this country that's going to be as lethal and difficult to eradicate as the coronavirus itself.

Let's say everyone in America stayed 6 feet from each other and wore a mask properly, what happens then? Would the whole thing go away in a year? If there was a guarantee that would happen I think most people would follow those rules. But most people don't believe that all the talk about masks and physical and social distancing is really going to stop the virus.

Unless you can enforce this on a global scale, which you can’t, a mask is limited on its effectiveness.

So yes, the world will be engaging in herd immunity.
