after the George Flloyd killing, we then had protests of hundreds to even thousands of people popping up throughout the country, with many devolving into riots and violence. These protests clearly went against the idea of "social distancing" and despite people claiming every single protester was wearing a mask, that is impossible to prove, especially as many videos showed protesters flat out spitting on people

surprisingly however, the health experts did not condemn the protests, they endorsed them

Quote:
a group of health and medical colleagues has penned an open letter to express their concern that protests around the United States could be shut down under the guise of coronavirus health concerns.

The letter -- which went on to draw more than 1,200 signatures -- focuses on techniques to reduce harm to people protesting racial injustice.

"We created the letter in response to emerging narratives that seemed to malign demonstrations as risky for the public health because of Covid-19," according to the letter writers, many of whom are part of the University of Washington's Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
"Instead, we wanted to present a narrative that prioritizes opposition to racism as vital to the public health, including the epidemic response. We believe that the way forward is not to suppress protests in the name of public health but to respond to protesters demands in the name of public health, thereby addressing multiple public health crises."

this despite after months of pleading for social distancing

not only has this encouraged more people to go out and congregate in mass protests like this one

but it no doubt had an effect on many everyday, working people and made them wonder. Why is it Ok to go out and protest but I can't go back to my job, I can't go to to a bar, take my kids to the playground. Making people who had to stay home to shelter in place with a bad family or lost their job to likely become resentful thus leading to a "i don't give a crap about the virus anymore" attitude among many people

I personally think it would have been better if the health experts had pointed out social distancing is more important than social justice but that is just me

It's literally not true that all health experts endorsed the protests. Regardless, there was no way the US could've "stopped" the protests without making things 10x worse.

Masks/ no masks, FDA/CDC bumbling non-stop, go ahead and protest...if it's against "racism"...

Let's just cut to the chase: when the government says up, you say down. When it says day, you say night.

You'll be fine.
