Jenny Slate is exiting her role as Missy (pictured above, center) on the Netflix show “Big Mouth” due to the character being biracial while Slate is white.

“At the start of the show, I reasoned with myself that it was permissible for me to play ‘Missy’ because her mom is Jewish and white — as am I,” Slate wrote on Instagram. But ‘Missy’ is also Black and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people.”

Slate went on to acknowledge that by portraying Missy she was “engaging in an act of erasure of Black people.” “Ending my portrayal of ‘Missy’ is one step in a life-long process of uncovering the racism in my actions,” she continued.
As in if in a cartoon or video game there's a black character then only a black person should voice said character, or if there's an asian character, only an asian person should voice it?

I’m sure there is a double standard to hurt white voice actors.

The Actors job is to portray other people. Why should they be limited?

Just wondering how they will handle voicing Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo and any other talking animal character. If a difference race isn't allowed to voice that character, how could a different species be allowed??

Ruh roh, we got a problem here lol

Apu on the Simpons was voiced by a White guy for nearly 30 years before he was banned due to "racist stereotyping" (as if owning a convenience store was the worst stereotype).

Sorry to go off OT, but have you noticed "Black" is always capitalized and "white" is always lower case? I was even chastised for writing black with a lower case b on Instagram. Why is this?

Oh, that is some recent attempt to make "black" out to be an ethnic group, like Hispanic, Irish, etc, rather than just a plain ole racial group like "white" is.
