I was pretty shocked Whitmer opened bars here, but then again consistency hasn't exactly been a theme with her reopening. Apparently the "science and data" she is always basing her decisions on (which has yet to ever be shared with the public) failed to indicate how risky bars are.
Follow the science is just a buzz word for democrats because republicans supposedly don't believe in the science.
Covid has a death rate of 5.2% in the USA. 94.8% survive. 5.2% die.
That is the confirmed cases death rate. We still don't have a good estimate of what percentage of the population has been infected, since so many are asymptomatic.

And some die without a confirmed diagnosis. The best way to judge is to assume that some percentage of increased deaths over last year is due to covid.

No. Please don't spread that around. The death rate is not known. The percent of confirmed cases that are dead is known. Totally different numbers. This type of misinformation (deliberate or not) just clouds the issue and causes people to make decisions that aren't entirely sensible.

And some die without a confirmed diagnosis. One way to judge is to assume that some (large) percentage of increased deaths over last year is due to Covid. The good news is that fewer people are dying because of better medicine. The bad news is more people will live with a chronic condition from a bad case.
