I live in Los Angeles, and remember well the riots regarding the Rodney King issue.
The riots and protest were limited to the city of Los Angeles, and no where else.
Turn ahead to this year, one man is killed while in police custody, thousands of miles away, and the entire country is protesting, including here in Los Angeles.
What has changed from back then to now?
I think the Rodney King riots lasted less than a week, and here we are , this Floyd guy was killed about a month ago, and the protest continue.
What has changed?
Two similar events, with entirely different outcomes.

Cable news and social media constantly telling them white people are evil and showing only the very rare white on black crime. In some cases, completely fabricating stories or intentionally misleading the public 24/7. They feel justified.
Rodney King was eight years ago and nothing has happened, nothing has changed. Social media helps spread the idea of protesting. Sprinkle on an idiot in office and this is what you get.

People have bred snowflakes that have no respect for their parents, other people or society as a whole. The snowflakes believe they are entitled to others financing their pathetic, lack-purpose lives. They were given waaaay too many "participation" awards for achieving nothing so work ethic is missing in them. They are an aimless gaggle of misfits who jump job to job and relationship to relationship because they don't want to work, and if something isn't easy, they bail.
The "protests" came at a time when, once again, hard working citizens, via government handouts, were financing (because of Covid) the snowflakes' lives, and they had nothing better or more purposeful to do in their lives than take to the streets to play "social activists." Rioting, looting and injury/death to innocent people were the only results that flowed from their misguided and worthless efforts.
Snowflakes are a lost and worthless generation.
