Never could understand why there were R E Lee statues in 90% black cities. The locals clearly did not want them. Emphasis on LOCALS not wanting them as in permanent citizens of the city in question. I LOATHE the SJW movement and vandalizing mobs. Also emphasis on removal in a lawful and orderly fashion.
Nor do I. Seems like we should agree more often...
I'd think tearing down the statue of racist confederates was as American as it gets.
Considering we fought a whole war over that and everything.
Total B.S. to remove history and evidence of history which gives local character and local perspective. This is nothing more than an over reaction by Virtue Signalers who want to look woke. Ridiculous and petty. That statue harms no one. Don't like it? Don't look at it, but don't take it away from everyone. It is more evidence of Progressive forced control and totalitarian thinking.

I tend to be right of center except 3 things which I am strongly left.
1) I favor "everyone gets a hamburger (!NOT a steak!)" universal health insurance mostly paid for with a payroll tax that everyone pays.
2) I favor much greater antitrust enforcement
3) I favor removal of most accounting rules / breaks the hyper wealthy (.1%) use to treat income at rates other than straight up income.
Im generally right of center on immigration, free college, rent control, SJW, housing is not a right, Affirmative action, college admissions, transgender athletics, police...

We're pretty similar, honestly. I'm all for controlling immigration, I simply question whether a "wall" is the most prudent use of funding and manpower. Our higher education system needs to be fixed, for certain - I'm not sure "free" college is the answer, though. I think college admissions for private universities are none of my business. Transgender athletics should be handled by the individual governing bodies. Not sure where you're going with "police" or "SJW" and "rent control".
If this was the will of the people of that city and they did it in an orderly fashion, Good for them.
The "will of the people" belongs in a voting booth, not a mob of misfits. Only the people who live on Monument Ave should have a voice. It is THEIR property value that is being negatively impacted by this.
As someone who actually lives in Richmond let me add that we are thrilled by this outcome.
Only a very small and very weird population is butt hurt about this.
I went to school there years ago. This is a glorious day. Friends sent live feeds of it being removed.
Notice how the people who scream snowflakes are crying about this.
